Rockets waive G Head
Mar 1, 2009 - 1:05 AM CHICAGO (Ticker) -- The Houston Rockets on Saturday waived guard Luther Head.Head had averaged 4.8 points in 22 games this season, most of which he has missed with a right foot injury. He will be eligible for the postseason if picked up by another team, thanks to his release coming prior to March 1.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the Rockets tried to trade Head prior to the trade deadline earlier this month, but the injury tempered the interest in him.
"Luther has been a great player and representative for the Rockets' organization," Houston general manager Daryl Morey told the Chronicle. "When it became clear he wasn't going to see minutes in our rotation, he maintained his professional demeanor and continued to work hard every day."
A first-round pick out of Illinois in 2005, Head has averaged 8.8 points in his three NBA seasons.
