Louisville takes care of Indiana at MSG

Dec 10, 2014 - 6:27 AM New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Montrezl Harrell posted his fourth straight double-double in No. 4 Louisville's 94-74 win over Indiana in Game 2 of the Jimmy V Classic from Madison Square Garden.

Harrell shot 10-of-13, finishing with 21 points and 11 rebounds to help the Cardinals (8-0) remain unbeaten.

Terry Rozier scored a game-high 26 points and Chris Jones stuffed the stat sheet with 24, nine rebounds and five assists. Wayne Blackshear added 14 points.

James Blackmon Jr. led four Hoosiers in double figures with 18 points.

Indiana (7-2) had its three-game win streak snapped.

"I hope we learn a lot from this (loss)," Indiana head coach Tom Crean said.

Four different Hoosiers scored during a 9-0 flurry to open the second half. Jones was the catalyst leading the Cardinals back, scoring seven straight before Rozier canned a 3-ball that gave Louisville a six-point lead at 58-52.

After Emmitt Holt's putback layup at 11:13 of the second half, Indiana went 4 1/2 minutes without scoring. Troy Williams' free throws at 6:46 finally ended the drought, but Rozier hit again from deep to open up Louisville's largest lead of the game, 76-62.

The Cardinals led by at least 10 the rest of the way and made the final score look crooked by sinking 11-of-12 from the foul line in the final 2:07.

It was tied at 16 6 1/2 into the game following Robert Johnson's triple when the Cardinals began to take control.

Harrell went on a personal 6-0 run on a putback dunk, a slam in transition and a sloppy Indiana inbounds pass that led to his explosive two-handed dunk. Indiana turned it over again out of a timeout and Louisville had five looks at the basket thanks to four offensive boards before Jaylen Johnson drew a foul and split a pair of free throws.

Indiana regrouped and hit five of its next eight shots out of a timeout. Max Hoetzel's triple had the Hoosiers within a point, 30-29.

Louisville's lead stretched into double figures after that, with the Cardinals netting 14 of the next 16 points. But once again, Indiana responded, closing the half on a 10-2 run. Nick Zeisloft hit a pair of 3s during the stretch and it was 46-41 at the break.

"We haven't been able to play this style in awhile, where you just go up and down like a ping pong match," Louisville head coach Rick Pitino said. "We were more than happy to do it, and it was exciting."

Game Notes

With his slam at 12:48 of the second half, Harrell became the all-time leader in dunks in Louisville history ... Harrell has scored at least 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds or more in every game this season ... Louisville won the rebounding margin, 52-34 ... Indiana fell to 6-10 against top-5 opponents under Tom Crean.
