Nash powers Oklahoma State past Baylor

Feb 10, 2015 - 3:25 AM Waco, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Le'Bryan Nash led the way with 22 points as No. 21 Oklahoma State defeated 16th-ranked Baylor 74-65 on Monday.

Phil Forte netted 18 points, Jeff Newberry scored 16 with six assists and Anthony Hickey supplied 12 points and seven helpers for the Cowboys (17-7, 7-5 Big 12), who completed their first season sweep of Baylor since 2006-07.

"I'm proud of our team," Oklahoma State head coach Travis Ford said. "I like how we were very steady tonight. We never panicked."

Taurean Prince finished with 20 points and Rico Gathers had 16 points on 6- of-9 shooting with 16 rebounds as the Bears (18-6, 6-5) had their three-game winning streak come to an end.

"It's disappointing, just the turnovers. One of our keys for every game is to limit our turnovers to nine and under and we didn't do that tonight," said Gathers. "Really, their players hit some big shots for them and that's really what put them ahead."

Oklahoma State went in front early in the second half. Forte knocked down a 3, got fouled and made the ensuing free throw to ignite a 17-4 spurt that Nash capped with a jumper that made it 49-41 with 13:42 to play.

Prince and Gathers each had four points during an 8-0 Baylor surge to cut the deficit to three, but Forte responded by knocking down a trey for a 61-55 game with 4:29 to go.

Nash's three-point play and a pair of Newberry free throws put the Cowboys up by 10 points with under two minutes remaining to seal the win.

Al Freeman ignited an 11-3 Baylor run with a 3 and Kenny Chery capped it with a three-point play for a 20-12 lead midway through the first half.

The Cowboys, however, cut the deficit to one point heading into the half as Newberry and Nash each made a pair of free throws and Hickey's triple made it a 33-32 game at the break.

Oklahoma State also defeated Baylor 64-53 on Jan. 27 ... The Cowboys have won four of their last six games against the Bears and won in Waco for the first time since 2006 ... Oklahoma State had 20 points off 16 Baylor turnovers ... Hickey was 4-for-6 from 3-point range.
