Oklahoma takes care of TCU
Feb 8, 2015 - 1:39 AM Fort Worth, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Spangler scored 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting as the 21st-ranked Oklahoma Sooners beat the TCU Horned Frogs by a 68-56 margin on Saturday.Buddy Hield added 16 points, 10 rebounds and three steals for the Sooners (16-7, 7-4 Big 12), who have won four in a row. Isaiah Cousins tallied 11 points.
Kenrich Williams ended with 10 points and nine boards for the Horned Frogs (14-9, 1-9), who have dropped six straight -- all to ranked teams. Kyan Anderson and Brandon Parrish each scored eight points.
"They did a really good job of shading a man on Kyan," TCU coach Trent Johnson said of the Sooners. "They were making it tough for him to get open looks. We had a couple bad turnovers, missed a couple open shots and because they are so skilled and deserving of their ranking, we fell behind. They are active with their hands, they challenge shots and there's a reason why they are as good as they are."
Oklahoma jumped out to a 9-0 lead that was cut to 21-20 with 6:30 left in the first half. TCU then scored eight straight points to go in front.
The Sooners responded with a 10-0 run over the final three minutes of the first half. Spangler tallied five points during the surge to help give Oklahoma a 31-28 edge at the break.
"I was expecting a really tough game. TCU's been playing everyone tough. Our guys knew that. I thought TCU made a good run there in the first half. The real key was our run to end the first half," Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger said. "I thought we started the second half with a lot of energy and we had a lot of guys making good plays. Road wins are always hard."
The visitors created some distance with a 9-2 flurry to start the second half. Jordan Woodard capped the burst with a pair of free throws to make it a 40-30 game.
The Horned Frogs never got closer than six the rest of the way.
