Providence uses strong second half to top Seton Hall

Mar 5, 2015 - 2:19 AM Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - LaDontae Henton scored 21 points with seven rebounds as No. 24 Providence used a dominant second half to top Seton Hall 79-66 on Wednesday.

Ben Bentil finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds and Kris Dunn scored all 17 of his points during the second half for the Friars (21-9, 11-6 Big East), who have won four of their last five games

Providence will close out its regular-season schedule against No. 21 Butler on Saturday.

Brandon Mobley and Isaiah Whitehead each netted 13 points and Sterling Gibbs returned from his two-game suspension to score 11 points for Seton Hall (16-13, 6-11), which has lost seven of its last eight games.

After trailing for most of the first half, Providence dominated the final 20 minutes, outscoring Seton Hall by 50-29 and shooting 66.7 percent from the field after being limited to 25.9 percent over the first half.

Henton scored five points as Providence opened the second half on an 11-2 run to tie the game at 40-40 less than three minutes in and gave the Friars a 52-45 advantge on a trey with 12:52 to play.

Bentil provided four points during a 10-3 burst that put the Friars up 62-51 with just 8:30 remaining.

Providence led by at least seven points the rest of the way.

Angel Delgado and Mobley each scored four points as the Pirates jumped out to an 8-3 lead. A Henton trey tied the game at 10-10, but Seton Hall quickly took a 17-10 lead less than eight minutes into the game.

After Providence used six unanswered points to cut the defict to one point, Haraldis Karlis ended an 11-0 Pirates spurt with consecutive 3-pointers to make it a 31-19 game with six minutes left in the first half.

The Friars ended the half on an 8-1 run, but still trailed 37-29 at the break.

Henton has now totaled 2,004 career points, joining Ryan Gomes as the only two players in Providence history with 2,000 poins and 1,000 rebounds ... The Friars have won five of its last six games against Seton Hall ... The Pirates wrap up their regular seaon in Georgetown on Saturday.
