"We just need to keep our heads up," said Mason. "We need to get ready for Sunday and get ready for the Big Ten Tournament. We need to stay positive."

Wisconsin started the game on a 7-0 run and never looked back. Ahead 24-14, the Badgers created some distance with a 12-2 run that Hayes capped with a layup for a 20-point margin.

But the Golden Gophers responded with a 13-2 surge to get within 38-29. It was a 44-34 game at the half.

Minnesota then started the second half on a 6-2 spurt to cut the gap to 46-40. However, Wisconsin scored the next five points to make it a double-digit contest again.

The Golden Gophers never got closer than eight the rest of the way.

"It was nice to have five guys who came to play and five guys who can shoot from the inside or outside," said Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan.
