No. 13 SDSU beats rival San Diego again

Dec 5, 2014 - 6:24 AM San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Dwayne Polee II scored 14 points and No. 13 San Diego State continued its dominance over rival San Diego with a 57-48 win on Thursday at Viejas Arena.

J.J. O'Brien had 13 points and freshman Trey Kell scored 10 for the Aztecs, who got back on track after a two-point loss to Arizona in the final of the Maui Invitational on Nov. 26.

San Diego State (6-1) has won nine straight meetings with San Diego.

Johnny Dee paced the Toreros (4-4) with 16 points in the setback.

O'Brien scored on the front and back end of an 8-0 run to start the game. Dee finally broke the seal for San Diego with a 3 at 16:37, but Kell answered with a triple at the other end.

SDSU went more than six minutes without scoring later in the first half but limited the Toreros to just a Jito Kok dunk during that stretch. O'Brien hit a 3-ball late in the half and the Aztecs led 31-19 at halftime.

San Diego State failed to really pull away, but it wasn't threatened either. The margin hovered between seven and 12 for the entire second half.

San Diego senior guard Christopher Anderson went scoreless on 0-of-9 shooting after getting 22 points against SDSU last season ... SDSU has won 18 straight at home ... Both teams shot under 38 percent from the field.
