No. 1 Kentucky routs UT-Arlington 92-44

Nov 26, 2014 - 7:08 AM Lexington, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Devin Booker had 19 points off the bench and No. 1 Kentucky held Texas-Arlington to four made field goals in the first half on the way to a 92-44 win Tuesday night.

The Wildcats (6-0) have beaten their first six opponents by an average of 36.8 points per game, including last week's 32-point win over then-No. 5 Kansas and Sunday's 58-point rout of Montana State.

Starting forward Alex Poythress was back after missing the last two games for Kentucky and had four points and nine rebounds in 20 minutes. Karl-Anthony Towns added 13 points and 11 rebounds and Dakari Johnson scored 12 off the bench.

Poythress was among just four Wildcats who spent 20 minutes or more on the court as coach John Calipari spread the playing time around.

"I left Alex in there because, again, it can't be me. They've got to build their own confidence, and that's in demonstrated performance," Calipari said. "They've got to be out there doing it. I thought (Towns) played better today. Willie (Cauley-Stein) played OK, but why not be better? Why not be the best guy on the floor?

"But it's hard. You get up 40 on a team, it's hard."

Lonnie McClanahan scored 10 points to lead the Mavericks (3-2), who entered play off back-to-back wins over Grand Canyon and Houston Baptist.

They shot 12.5 percent (4-of-32) in the first half, with their leading three scorers -- McClanahan, Jamel Outler and Johnny Hill -- going a combined 1- for-14.

"Obviously that was a tough one for us," said Texas-Arlington coach Scott Cross. "First half, I'll take responsibility for that. We went out and played zone. We watched on tape that it looked like Kentucky didn't attack a zone as good as they did some man-to-man, so that's why we went zone when we are a man team.

"They picked us apart in that zone. It was impressive watching them play and seeing them go inside and outside. They played the game the right way. That's what is really impressive, to be able to get all of those NCAA All-Americans to play together as a team with 10 different guys. I don't know how (Calipari) gets those guys to do it, but it is really impressive to see what they do."

None of Kentucky's five starters played more than 12 minutes in the first half but the Wildcats shot better than 61 percent for a 55-12 lead at the break.

It was still a single-digit game after 7 1/2 minutes until Cauley-Stein scored four straight points to spark an 8-0 burst to give Kentucky a 23-7 advantage.

Texas-Arlington scored just two more points in the half after Kaelon Wilson's 3 with 9:48 remaining.

Kentucky's run to end the first half was 40-5 over the last 12 minutes. The Wildcats led by as many as 50 in the final minute of the second half.

Aaron and Andrew Harrison finished with 11 points in the game and Trey Lyles scored 10.

The game concluded the Cawood Ledford Classic ... Kentucky shot 56.6 percent and Texas-Arlington ended 17-of-63 (27 percent) ... The Wildcats won the only other meeting between the programs 105-76 last Nov. 19 ... Kentucky faces Providence on Sunday ... Arlington plays at Montana State on Friday.
