Duke bests Stanford to win Coaches vs. Cancer title

Nov 23, 2014 - 10:26 AM Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Quinn Cook scored 18 points and Jahlil Okafor had his first career double-double as No. 4 Duke toppled Stanford, 70-59, to win the Coaches vs. Cancer title.

Okafor was limited on the post most of the night by Stanford senior Stefan Nastic but still managed to tally 10 points with 12 rebounds. Justise Winslow stuffed the stat sheet yet again with 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists and Matt Jones chipped in with 10 off the bench.

"I just try to go out there and make plays," Winslow said. "Hustle, get loose balls, score the ball. You can pretty much find me anywhere on the court."

Duke (5-0), which has won every game this season by double digits, dismantled Temple 74-54 on Friday to reach the finals. Cook earned Tournament MVP honors after averaging 17.5 points over two games.

Chasson Randle scored a game-high 22 points while Nastic posted 13 points and 13 rebounds as Stanford (3-1) fell for the first time this season. Freshman Reid Travis contributed 12 boards.

Okafor's only basket of the first half -- a breakaway slam from Tyus Jones -- sent Duke into the first media timeout with a 14-8 lead.

Duke led by as many as 13 points in the opening 20 minutes and took a 40-29 advantage into the locker rooms.

To Stanford's credit, it never stopped coming despite an offensive barrage from the Blue Devils early in the second half. Twice in the first 5 1/2 minutes, Randle answered a Cook bucket with one of his own

Duke went cold after Okafor's missed hook shot at 13:27 started a string of four straight misses. Winslow also went 1-of-4 from the foul line during the four-minute stretch, but Randle scored Stanford's only four points during the cold spell. Okafor's layup at 9:43 had Duke back up by 10, 53-43.

The Blue Devils were in control from that point on.

Game Notes

Duke finished a stretch of five games in eight days in three different cities to start the season. It returns to the court at home against Furman on Wednesday ... Stanford shot just 3-of-14 from behind the arc, while Duke finished 9-for-25.
