Loyola-Chicago beats ULM for CBI title

Apr 2, 2015 - 2:33 AM Monroe, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Devon Turk scored 14 points, Milton Doyle added 13 off the bench and Loyola-Chicago took down Louisiana-Monroe 63-62 to win the College Basketball Invitational championship.

Earl Peterson chipped in 12 points and Montel James scored 10 for Loyola- Chicago (24-13), which took the opener of this best-of-three series on Monday, 65-58. Turk became Loyola's all-time leader in 3-point field goals early in the second half.

Majok Deng netted 17 points and Tylor Ongwae had 15 for the Warhawks (24-14).

ULM led 58-54 following a pair of Justin Roberson free throws with 4:51 remaining. Doyle led the Ramblers back, assisting on a Turk 3-pointer before sinking a jumper and two free throws to make it 61-58 the other way.

After Nick Coppola cut the Warhawks' deficit to one with a pair from the line, Doyle kept possession alive with an offensive rebound and found Christian Thomas for a layup, restoring the three-point lead.

Empty possessions both ways and a pair of timeouts led to Chinedu Amajoyi's layup with 1.8 seconds remaining. Peterson missed the front end of a 1-and-1 at the other end, but the rebound was bobbled and ULM failed to get off a final shot.

Peterson, who scored 16 points in Game 1, was named MVP of the CBI.
