Siena fires coach Buonaguro
Mar 12, 2013 - 6:20 PM Loudonville, NY (Sports Network) - Siena men's basketball coach Mitch Buonaguro has been relieved of his duties following a 24-loss season. The lead assistant under Fran McCaffery for five years, Buonaguro was promoted to head coach in 2010 and inherited a program that had made three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
The Saints didn't experience the same success under Buonaguro, going 35-59.
"I'd like to thank Mitch for his dedication and commitment to Siena basketball the last eight years," director of athletics John D'Argenio said in a statement Tuesday. "This change isn't being made for lack of effort. Basketball is important in the strategic direction of Siena. We have high expectations and aspirations for this program."
