South Carolina suspends Martin one game
Mar 6, 2014 - 10:05 PM Columbia, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - South Carolina head men's basketball coach Frank Martin has been suspended by the university for Saturday's regular- season finale at Mississippi State, athletics director Ray Tanner announced Thursday.The notoriously fiery Martin was disciplined for what Tanner termed "a result of inappropriate verbal communication as it relates to the well-being of our student-athletes."
Associate head coach Matt Figger will coach the Gamecocks in Saturday's matchup. Martin will be eligible to return to the bench for the upcoming Southeastern Conference Tournament.
South Carolina has gone 11-19 overall and just 4-13 in the SEC in Martin's second season.
