Wiggins to enter NBA Draft
Mar 31, 2014 - 7:16 PM Lawrence, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Kansas star Andrew Wiggins has decided to enter the NBA Draft.Wiggins made the announcement Monday at a press conference with Kansas coach Bill Self and his family at his side.
"It wasn't an easy decision," said Wiggins. "It was fun playing in Allen Fieldhouse. I can understand why players stay four years. I wish I had more time. College goes by so fast."
Wiggins had virtually revealed his decision to leave following KU's home finale on March 5, saying after the game that he was "sad it's my last time. But I've enjoyed my time here."
The 19-year-old Wiggins could be the top pick in June's draft after a freshman season that featured averages of 17.1 points and 5.9 rebounds in 35 games. His 597 points broke the Kansas freshman record of 589 set last year by Ben McLemore.
"This is a happy day," said Self. "The time is right for Andrew. Opportunity is certainly knocking on the door. He had a great season for us. We're very excited for his future. This is a great decision and one we support 100 percent."
Kansas won the Big 12 regular-season title and lost to Iowa State in the conference tournament championship game before exiting the NCAA Tournament with a third-round loss to Stanford.
