Gonzaga blasts Division II St. Thomas Aquinas

Nov 23, 2014 - 7:51 AM Spokane, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Angel Nunez scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading 13th-ranked Gonzaga to a 109-55 rout of St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday.

Byron Wesley added 22 points and Domantas Sabonis chipped in 19 for the Bulldogs (4-0), who easily handled the Division II Spartans for their 29th straight home win. Gonzaga will step up the competition next week with a visit to Madison Square Garden for the semifinals of the NIT Season Tip-off against Georgia.

"You never know who on our team is going to be the guy," said Nunez.

Matthew Lee scored 13 points to lead St. Thomas Aquinas (0-3).

The Spartans kept it close early and a 3-pointer by Marcus Henderson tied the game at 10-10, but a Wesley dunk started a 10-0 Gonzaga run. Wesley added the next five points before a Nunez triple gave the Bulldogs a 20-10 edge.

"I just try to focus on playing hard every night," said Wesley.

St. Thomas got only as close as six from there and a 15-0 run later in the first half sent Gonzaga to a 46-21 advantage. The Bulldogs carried a 56-26 margin to the break and cruised in the second half.

The Bulldogs haven't lost at home since an 85-74 setback to Illinois on Dec. 8, 2012 ... Kyle Wiltjer contributed 17 points and 11 rebounds for Gonzaga ... Wesley was the only Gonzaga starter to log more than 20 minutes.
