Oklahoma upends No. 22 UCLA

Nov 27, 2014 - 4:06 AM Nassau, Bahamas (SportsNetwork.com) - Buddy Hield collected a game-high 24 points as Oklahoma knocked off No. 22 UCLA by a 75-65 count in a quarterfinal meeting in the Battle 4 Atlantis.

"I was thinking about it for a long time," said Hield, born in Freeport and who lived there until moving to Kansas in high school. "It's just special to come here and play in front of my family and friends. A great team win. I had to do my job. My teammates did their job."

Frank Booker had 11 points and Jordan Woodard 10 for the Sooners (3-1), who advance to face Butler -- which toppled No. 5 North Carolina earlier Wednesday.

Bryce Alford finished with 19 points while Kevon Looney added 16 points and a game-best 15 rebounds for the Bruins (4-1).

UCLA's Isaac Hamilton hit a free throw with 5:53 to play which produced the game's final tie at 60-60. From there, Oklahoma closed out the contest with a 15-5 burst.

Woodard connected from long distance, Ryan Spangler added a pair from the line and Tashawn Thomas hit from in close to make it a seven-point spread, before Tony Parker and Norman Powell made consecutive buckets for a three-point game.

Hield then struck from long distance, then Parker converted only 1-of-2 from the line before Oklahoma finished 5-of-6 from the charity stripe to seal the outcome.

"We knew it was going to be a tough battle," UCLA coach Steve Alford said. "I liked the way our guys competed."

The Sooners led by as many as seven on multiple occasions throughout the first half, the last time coming on two Woodard free throws with 2:47 left before intermission. Oklahoma led 32-27 at the break.

Woodard's layup provided the Sooners a 41-34 edge just over three minutes into the second half before UCLA exploded with a 14-4 run to take a 48-45 lead just after 6 1/2 minutes elapsed. Alford scored the first five of the burst, while Looney ended it by scoring five straight.

Hamilton's triple boosted the Bruins into a 57-49 lead with 9:05 to play, but less than two minutes later it was a 59-57 Oklahoma lead after another Hield three.
