Sharp-shooting Cyclones down Razorbacks
Dec 5, 2014 - 6:59 AM Ames, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Bryce Dejean-Jones and Georges Niang had 27 and 26 points, respectively, and No. 20 Iowa State cruised past 18th-ranked Arkansas 95-77 on Thursday as part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.Dejean-Jones made all eight of his shots and went 4-of-4 from beyond the arc for the Cyclones (5-1), who have won 24 straight non-conference home games. Niang added eight assists and six rebounds.
"It was very exciting," said Desean-Jones in reference to playing in front of the home crowd. "I was told that it's magical in here, and it was tonight. The fans were loud and excited. It helped us the entire night."
Dustin Hogue tallied 14 points for Iowa State, which shot 64 percent from the field and went 10-of-19 from 3-point range. Monte Morris and Naz Long had 11 and 10 points, respectively.
"Tonight we wanted to just go out and play 40 minutes of solid basketball," Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg said.
Bobby Portis ended with 19 points and eight rebounds for the Razorbacks (6-1). Alandise Harris donated 15 points.
Holding a 26-20 lead midway through the first half, Iowa State pulled away with a 13-0 run. Matt Thomas and Niang made 3-pointers to start the surge that Hogue capped it with a layup for a 39-20 advantage.
The Cyclones put on an offensive clinic in the first half. They shot 64.3 percent from the field, including a 7-of-14 effort from 3-point range, to race out to a 52-32 lead at the break.
Arkansas never got within single digits in the second half.
Game Notes
The Cyclones have a 4-1 advantage over the Razorbacks in the all-time series ... Dejean-Jones became just the fifth Cyclone in school history to make all of his shots from the floor with eight or more attempts ... Rashad Madden and Michael Qualls had 13 and 10 points, respectively, for Arkansas.
