Kentucky's Poythress out with torn ACL

Dec 12, 2014 - 4:17 PM Lexington, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Kentucky forward Alex Poythress will miss the remainder of the season because of a torn ACL in his left knee.

Poythress was hurt during practice on Thursday and will undergo surgery in the near future. A timetable for recovery is usually 6-to-8 months.

"Our team was devastated for Alex when I told them," said Kentucky coach John Calipari. "There were tears throughout the room because this hurt them to the core. How they will respond I really don't know, but I will do my best to be there for each of these kids."

Poythress was averaging 5.5 points and 3.8 rebounds for the top-ranked Wildcats this season.

The 6-foot-8 junior from Clarksville, Tennessee was the most experienced of the Wildcats, having played in a team-high 80 career games with 38 starts.
