K-State tops OU to snap 5-game losing skid

Feb 15, 2015 - 6:25 AM Manhattan, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcus Foster hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with three seconds left to lift Kansas State to a thrilling 59-56 win over No. 17 Oklahoma on Saturday night.

Foster, who was returning from a three-game suspension, netted 14 points. Nino Williams, who was just 2-of-12 from the floor, went 9-of-11 from the foul line and finished with 13 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats (13-13, 6-7 Big 12), who snapped a five-game losing streak.

Kansas State prevailed shooting just 26.5 percent (13-of-49) from the field and tallying just three baskets over the final nine minutes.

"The biggest thing was to play hard and to defend. Those were the two things that got us over the hump and gave us a chance," Wildcats coach Bruce Weber said.

Buddy Hield posted 14 points and four assists, while Jordan Woodard added 13 for Oklahoma (17-8, 8-5), which had a five-game winning streak come to an end.

"They were hustling and they had the speed against us," Hield said.

After Foster's layup staked the Wildcats to a 56-49 advantage with 3:54 remaining, the Sooners ripped off seven straight points to tie it.

Woodard sunk two free throws, TaShawn Thomas split a pair, Woodard nailed a jumper and then hit two more bonus shots to knot the contest at 56-56 with 1:31 to play.

Neither team scored again until Fosters' triple. He took the clock down, then swished the right wing trey off a screen to put the Wildcats in front.

Isaiah Cousins was fouled with two ticks on the clock, but was off the mark on the first foul shot. He then missed the second one intentionally and Kansas State corralled the rebound.

Oklahoma held a 28-27 edge at the break.

Game Notes

OU coach Lon Kruger, who was a former Kansas State All-American, fell to 5-7 against his alma mater ... The Wildcats were 28-of-36 from the foul line ... The Sooners shot 37.7 percent (20-of-53) from the field.
