Late shot sends Arkansas past Ole Miss

Feb 15, 2015 - 6:28 AM Oxford, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - Manuale Watkins scored the winning basket with 6.4 seconds to play as No. 24 Arkansas escaped with a 71-70 win over Ole Miss on Saturday.

With time winding down and Ole Miss holding a one-point lead, Rashad Madden came down to the right of the net and tried to go up for a shot, but was well defended. He dished the ball over to the left for Watkins, who lofted it in for the lead.

Jarvis Summers' jumper at the other end was off and the clock expired before the Rebels could attempt another shot.

Michael Qualls had 15 points and nine rebounds, Anton Beard added 14 points and Bobby Portis had 12 points and five boards for the Razorbacks (20-5, 9-3 SEC), who have won their last four.

M.J. Rhett had 16 points and nine boards and Stefan Moody added 16 points and six boards for the Rebels (17-8, 8-4), who had a six-game winning streak broken.

"It was a high-level game. It was very physical. When you get to February basketball, its played like this," Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy said.

Arkansas held a 20-13 lead after Moses Kingley put in a layup with 11 minutes to play in the first half, and Beard later made it a 34-25 game with four minutes to play on a 3-pointer.

Ole Miss, though, answered that with a 6-0 run, and Moody put in a layup to close the first half as Arkansas took a 40-36 lead into the break.

LaDarius White's jumper with 8 1/2 minutes to play gave the Rebels a 58-57 lead, their first lead since the opening minutes of the game, and the team led by five with 3 1/2 minutes left after Summers put in a jumper for a 68-63 advantage.
