No. 7 Arizona eases past USC

Feb 20, 2015 - 6:19 AM Tucson, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Kaleb Tarczewski scored 13 of his team-high 15 points in the first half and No. 7 Arizona rolled to an 87-57 win over USC on Thursday.

Stanley Johnson added 13 points, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson had 12 and Brandon Ashley and Parker Jackson-Cartwright each scored 11 for the Wildcats (23-3, 11-2 Pac-12), who have won three in a row since a loss to Arizona State on Feb. 7.

"I think we're playing with confidence," said Arizona coach Sean Miller.

Jackson-Cartwright returned after missing four games with a concussion and played 16 minutes.

Malik Martin led USC (10-16, 2-12) with 15 points and Julian Jacobs had 13.

The Trojans snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 68-55 win over Oregon State on Saturday but were never closer than nine points over the final 28 minutes against Arizona.

The Wildcats remained for first place in the conference with No. 9 Utah.

They shot better than 63 percent from the field for a 49-31 lead at halftime.

The Wildcats didn't begin taking control until a 12-2 run that started with about 9 1/2 minutes remaining in the half. Hollis-Jefferson scored five points during the flurry, including the last three to make it 36-22.

Arizona went ahead by as much as 19 points and USC wasn't closer than nine. The Trojans shot under 38 percent in the half and missed 10 of their 13 3- point attempts.

Arizona's lead reached as high as 32 in the second half.

Game Notes

Arizona retired Jason Terry's No. 31 jersey at halftime. Terry won a national championship with the Wildcats in 1997 and was a consensus All-American after averaging 21.9 points as a senior in 1998-99. A 16-year NBA veteran, he currently plays for the Houston Rockets and ranks third all-time in league history in made 3-point field goals ... Arizona leads the all-time series 63-41 ... The Wildcats host UCLA on Saturday ... USC plays Arizona State on the road Sunday.
