Reports: Woman says Jones sent threatening text

Feb 24, 2015 - 12:52 AM Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - A woman filed a report with University of Louisville campus police saying former Cardinals guard Chris Jones sent her a threatening text message, according to multiple reports Monday.

The reports by the Louisville Courier-Journal, WDRB-TV and Insider Louisville came one day after Jones was dismissed from the team in a brief statement by the university that offered no explanation.

Jones, a senior, had been suspended Feb. 17 for an unspecified violation of team rules but was soon reinstated and scored 17 points in Louisville's win over Miami on Saturday.

Feb. 17 is also the date the woman filed her report with campus police, which was obtained by each media outlet via an open records request.

The woman said she has been in an "intimate off and on relationship" with Jones for the past year. She said she went to Jones' apartment around midnight the night before and waited for him for three hours. She left after "messing up" his room.

At around 2 p.m. on Feb. 17, Jones allegedly texted her a message saying he would "smack TF (the f---) out of" her.

The woman said she didn't want Jones prosecuted, but "preferred that someone talk to him about his behavior," according to the report.

The records requests made by the three media outlets uncovered an additional incident involving Jones that was still under investigation.

Jones, who transferred to the Cardinals from Northwest Florida Junior College, was averaging 13.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and a team-high 3.6 assists per game this season for the No. 17 Cardinals.

Freshman Quentin Snider is expected to be the team's starting point guard going forward.
