No. 7 Gonzaga beats BYU to win 14th WCC title

Mar 11, 2015 - 4:07 AM Las Vegas, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Wiltjer scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, and the seventh-ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs captured their 14th WCC title with a 91-75 win over the BYU Cougars on Tuesday.

Kevin Pangos added 16 points and five assists for the Bulldogs (32-2), who played in their 18th straight WCC Tournament final. Domantas Sabonis and Gary Bell Jr. had 15 points apiece.

Kyle Collinsworth ended with 28 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Cougars (25-9), who had an eight-game winning streak snapped. Tyler Haws and Skyler Halford contributed 15 and 13 points, respectively.

BYU and Gonzaga split the regular season series, with each team winning on the road. The Cougars ended the Bulldogs' 41-game home winning streak with a 73-70 victory less than two weeks ago.

The Bulldogs led for most of the first half and took a 48-42 edge into the locker room.

Ahead 54-52, Przemek Karnowski scored six straight points to spark a 17-7 Gonzaga run. Sabonis capped the surge with a layup to make it a 71-59 contest with 10:55 to play.

BYU scored the next six points to get within six. But Sabonis' layup and a Bell 3-pointer made it 76-65 with 7:34 left.

The Cougars never got closer than seven the rest of the way.

Game Notes

Gonzaga improved to 3-0 against BYU in the WCC Tournament, including a victory over the Cougars in last year's title game ... Karnowski had 12 points for the Bulldogs, who shot 53.7 percent from the field and went 8-of-12 from beyond the arc.
