Kentucky tops Florida to stay undefeated

Mar 14, 2015 - 1:52 AM Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Karl-Anthony Towns scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to led the top-ranked Kentucky Wildcats over the Florida Gators, 64-49, in the quarterfinal round of the SEC Tournament.

Aaron Harrison added 13 points for the top-seeded Wildcats (32-0), who will look to continue their undefeated season in the semifinal round on Saturday against 13th-seeded Auburn.

"For us, we just worry about the next game," Towns said. "For you to be historic, you got to keep winning every next game. So we just worry about what we can do to contribute to the game for each other, and also just make sure that we do everything we can to not only contribute, but to also help anyone who needs it."

Jon Horford scored a game-high 15 points to lead eighth-seeded Florida (16-17), which gave Kentucky a game until a late-game run put the contest out of doubt.

"I think statistically if you look at the game, everything was pretty even. Both teams I thought defended pretty well. They out-rebounded us a little bit, but the difference in the game was the free-throw line - 23 attempts to our five was a huge factor in the game," Florida coach Billy Donovan said.

Down by 11, 42-31, Florida scored 14 of the next 19 points to make it a game. Horford scored seven points during the run and Devin Robinson hit 1-of-2 free throws at the 7:40 mark to make it a 50-45 game.

Kentucky responded, however, and put the game out of reach with a 14-2 run. Towns scored five points during the spurt, which was capped by an Andrew Harrison jumper with 2:25 left for a 64-47 lead.

The Gators scored just four points over the final seven-plus minutes of the game.

Andrew Harrison scored nine points for Kentucky.

Florida scored 10 of the game's first 15 points to jump on top of the Wildcats early. The Gators continue to lead, 17-14, after Horford's layup at the 11:09 mark, but that was the last lead of the game for Florida. Six straight points gave Kentucky the lead for good. Devin Booker's layup gave the Wildcats an 18-17 edge and Andrew Harrison's jumper nearly a minute later extended the edge to 20-17.

Florida remained within striking distance, but could never regain the lead.

Kentucky carried a 31-27 lead into halftime and then went ahead 42-31 following an Aaron Harrison three-pointer that capped a 9-0 surge 5:52 into the second half.
