Duke frosh Jones named Most Outstanding Player

Apr 7, 2015 - 5:26 AM Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Duke freshman Tyus Jones was named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four on Monday night after scoring 19 of his 23 points in the second half to lead the Blue Devils to their fifth national championship.

The 6-foot-1 guard helped pick the Blue Devils up while fellow freshmen Jahlil Okafor and Justise Winslow spent long stretches on the bench in foul trouble.

Among his clutch shots was a 3-pointer that gave Duke the lead for good in their 68-63 win over Wisconsin.

The Blue Devils trailed by nine in the second half before Jones and another freshman, guard Grayson Allen, led the comeback.

Jones was 7-of-13 from the floor, including 2-for-3 on 3-pointers, and also contributed five rebounds and an assist.

"All the time everyone on this team is telling each other just stay in it," Jones said. "We never get down on ourselves or one another. This team is so close that it's all about winning no matter who is stepping up, no matter how you're playing individually, as long as the team wins."

Okafor and Winslow, should they leave school, are both projected to be top-10 picks in the NBA Draft.

Jones, too, could go in the first round if he chooses to declare.
