Finnish 7-footer Markkanen signs with No. 12 Arizona

(AP) No. 12 Arizona has signed 7-foot forward Lauri Markkanen from Finland to its 2016-17 freshman class.Markkanen of Helsinki is an athletic forward who can shoot from the outside or play with his back to the basket. He played for Finland in the FIBA Under-16 European Championships and led all scorers in the 2015 Under-18 championships with 18.2 points per game while adding 6.3 rebounds.
Markkanen is the son of Pekka Markkanen, a former Kansas player who played professionally in Finland and on the country's national team.
