Pitino elevates Johnson to Louisville associate head coach

Mar 15, 2016 - 10:22 PM LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Louisville coach Rick Pitino has promoted assistant Kenny Johnson to associate head coach.

Johnson, who just completed his second season with the Cardinals, signed a two-year contract to remain on Pitino's staff. He is credited with helping recruit last year's class that was rated top-10 and helped No. 16 Louisville finish 23-8 after starting the season unranked.

Pitino praised Johnson's recruiting and coaching skills in a release Tuesday saying, ''We want him to remain a part of our family for the coming years.''

The school is serving a self-imposed postseason ban after its investigation into an escort's allegations that former staffer Andre McGee hired strippers for recruits and players from 2010-14 determined that violations occurred.
