After falling in the poll, Tennessee takes on Marquette

Dec 16, 2008 - 2:29 PM No. 23 Marquette (8-1) vs. No. 19 Tennessee (6-2), 9:30 p.m. EST

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Tennessee dropped significantly in the latest coaches' poll after suffering an upset at the hands of Temple on Saturday. It does not get any easier on Tuesday.

The 19th-ranked Volunteers hope to get back on track when they play No. 23 Marquette at the Sommet Center.

Tennessee fell 11 spots after an 88-72 loss to Temple, much in part to Dionte Christmas' 35 points for the Owls.

"We're ranked too high," Tennessee head coach Bruce Pearl said after the loss. "We have a long way to go."

Tyler Smith is averaging 17.4 points and 5.9 rebounds to lead Tennessee.

Marquette, which is coming off a 69-50 victory against IPFW on Saturday, is playing against its first ranked opponent this season. Lazar Hayward had 19 points and 18 rebounds in the win.

Wesley Matthews is scoring 19.6 points to lead the Golden Eagles.
