Notre Dame thumps North Carolina State
Mar 2, 2014 - 10:41 PM Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Natalie Achonwa scored 19 points with six rebounds as No. 2 Notre Dame took an 84-60 victory over 13th-ranked North Carolina State on Sunday.Jewell Loyd had 18 points with five rebounds, while Kayla McBride scored 12 points with seven rebounds and six assists for the Irish (29-0, 16-0 ACC), who finished the first perfect regular season for a team from the conference since the 2006-07 Duke team.
Miah Spencer scored 18 points while Kody Burke added 15 and Markeisha Gatling had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Wolfpack (24-6, 11-5), who had won two straight coming into the game.
Holding an eight-point lead to start the second half after finishing the first with the final four points, the Irish scored 17 unanswered points over a seven-minute span in the second half to put the contest away.
Notre Dame is the first ACC team to go unbeaten in league play since North Carolina in 2007-08, and the first team with 16 wins in the conference since Duke in 2002-03.
