Stanford coasts past South Dakota

Mar 23, 2014 - 1:13 AM Ames, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chiney Ogwumike scored a game-high 23 points, as the second-seeded Stanford Cardinal downed the 15th-seeded South Dakota Coyotes, 81-62, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Hilton Coliseum.

Ogwumike shot 11-of-19 from the field and added eight rebounds and four assists for Stanford (30-3), which will play Florida State in the second round. Bonnie Samuelson shot 6-of-10 from 3-point range for 18 points, Lili Thompson netted 11 points and Amber Orrange tallied 10 points and nine assists.

Nicole Seekamp poured in 22 points on 9-of-13 from the field for South Dakota (19-14) in its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.

Stanford ran out to a comfortable 42-27 lead at intermission after shooting 19-of-37 from the field in the first half (.514) compared to 11-of-24 for South Dakota (.458).

The Cardinal's advantage never dipped below 15 in the second stanza.

Stanford outscored South Dakota from 3-point range, 30-18, and won the rebounding battle by a 41-30 margin.
