Boyette leads No. 6 Texas past Kansas 70-46

Jan 28, 2016 - 4:11 AM AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Imani Boyette has eight double-doubles in nine Big 12 games, personal accomplishment that pleases the Texas center.

''I should say no,'' Boyette said, smiling. ''But I am aware.''

Boyette had one Wednesday night with 16 points and 10 rebounds and No. 6 Texas routed Kansas 70-46 for the 1,000th win in program history. Boyette also had four blocks while playing just 21 minutes.

Brooke McCarty added 13 points as the Longhorns (19-1, 8-1) took command with a 23-0 push bridging the second and third quarters.

Lauren Aldridge scored 15 for Kansas (5-15, 0-9), which has lost 11 consecutive games. Caelynn Manning-Allen scored 14. The Jayhawks made eight 3-point baskets, including five by Aldridge, but scored only two points in the paint.

The only Big 12 game in which Boyette did not produce a double-double was a 75-38 win at Kansas on Jan. 13. She had 15 points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes. She did not play in the fourth quarter.

''She definitely, at Kansas, wanted to go back in,'' Texas coach Karen Aston said. ''But the game was in hand. Tonight the starters played a little bit in the fourth quarter.''

Indeed, Boyette appeared for two minutes, grabbed her 10th rebound, and was removed from the game by Aston.

Boyette said the statistical lapse at Kansas was her own fault.

''I was kind of messing around and not taking the game seriously,'' Boyette said. ''I could have played harder and hopefully accomplished (a double-double). Coach told me you should have done it while you were in there.''

The Longhorns finished the first half Wednesday with a 19-0 push that gave them a 39-15 halftime lead. Kansas failed to score during the final 7:45 of the half.

Boyette had 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks in the half. McCarty made three 3-pointers.

Texas and Kansas are the worst in the Big 12 at taking care of the ball, averaging 17 turnovers each. The Jayhawks committed 23 against Texas. The Longhorns made 18.

Kansas had 12 turnovers in the first quarter - six by Aldridge, their leading scorer this season. Texas converted the 12 into 10 points while taking a 20-9 at the end of the period.

Texas finished the first half with 16 points off 16 Kansas turnovers.

''We did a poor job of taking adequate care of the basketball,'' Kansas coach Brandon Schneider said. ''But Texas can be disruptive.''
