Virginia Tech hires James Madison's Brooks as women's coach

Mar 28, 2016 - 4:49 PM BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) Virginia Tech has hired James Madison women's basketball coach Kenny Brooks as its new women's coach.

Athletic director Whit Babcock made the announcement Monday.

Brooks, 47, has spent the past 14 seasons at James Madison, turning the Dukes into one of the top teams in the Colonial Athletic Association. During his tenure, James Madison was 337-122 and made six NCAA Tournament appearances and had five berths in the Women's National Invitation Tournament.

JMU was 27-6 this season, including 17-1 in the CAA, and made its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. It marked the 11th consecutive season that the Dukes won at least 24 games.

He replaces Dennis Wolff, who was fired after five seasons with a 62-93 record. The Hokies were 18-14 this season.
