Cortijo's clutch basket lifts Texas over San Diego
Dec 31, 2007 - 8:07 AM SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Carla Cortijo sank a jumper with 3.7 seconds remaining as No. 19 Texas captured the Surf 'N Slam Classic with a 81-79 victory over San Diego on Sunday.After the Toreros rallied from a six-point deficit at the half, Cortijo had the ball in her hands with the clock winding down before she knocked down her fifth basket of the contest en route to 11 points.
Brittainey Raven scored a career-high 23 points, grabbed eight rebounds and handed out seven assists for the Longhorns (11-2), who won their ninth straight game.
Ashley Lindsey chipped 18 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks for Texas, which held a 42-34 advantage on the boards.
Amber Sprague scored 23 points and Amanda Sprague added 22 and 11 assists for San Diego (8-5), who shot 51.5 percent (17-of-33) in the second half.
