Stanford routs Maryland in Foster Farms Bowl

Dec 31, 2014 - 6:44 AM Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Stanford got to play at Levi's Stadium.

It just wasn't the trip to Santa Clara the Cardinal envisioned.

Remound Wright ran for three touchdowns in the first half and the Cardinal routed Maryland 45-21 in the Foster Farms Bowl on Tuesday night.

Stanford, which had made a BCS bowl in each of the previous four seasons, including consecutive Pac-12 titles, had hoped to play in the San Francisco 49ers' new home for the conference title game on Dec. 5. An inconsistent 5-4 season in the league, however, prevented that.

The Cardinal ripped off 35 straight points to seize control of the contest after it was tied 7-7 early in the second.

Kevin Hogan completed 14-of-20 passes for 189 yards with both of his touchdowns going to Devon Cajuste, who caught four passes for 47 yards for Stanford (8-5), which won its last three games.

Austin Hooper had five receptions for 71 yards, Wright carried the ball eight times for 49 yards and Christian McCaffrey added 57 yards on seven totes in the triumph.

Stefon Diggs, who returned from a two-game absence due to a lacerated kidney, hauled in 10 passes for 138 yards for the Terrapins (7-6), who dropped their last three tilts.

C.J. Brown was 15-of-27 for 205 yards with an interception in defeat.

After Wes Brown's 1-yard TD run tied the game at 7-7 early in the second, Patrick Skove returned the ensuing kickoff to the Maryland 49.

Hogan hit Greg Taboada for a 28-yard gain and Wright finished off the brisk 5- play trek with a 3-yard scamper into the end zone.

Following a Terrapins three-and-out, Hogan took a quarterback keeper for 30 yards down the left sideline and fired a 37-yard completion over the middle to Hooper two plays later. Wright concluded the march with a 1-yard TD plunge for a 21-7 Stanford spread near the midway point of the second.

Maryland didn't move the chains again on its next sequence and Hogan flipped an 8-yard TD pass to Cajuste with 1:17 to go in the half and help the Cardinal head into the locker room with a 28-7 cushion.

Cajuste added a 9-yard touchdown reception early in the third quarter.

Jordan Williamson missed a 37-yard field goal wide right four plays after Dallas Lloyd blocked a Maryland punt, but Ricky Seale got into the end zone from a yard out on Stanford's next possession to extend the advantage to 42-7 early in the fourth.

William Likely returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards down the right sideline.

Williamson booted a 29-yard field goal and Brown ran in from two yards out later in the fourth to cap the scoring.

Wright's 1-yard TD plunge midway through the first opened the scoring.
