NFL hopeful Dennard arrested for hitting cop
Apr 21, 2012 - 9:07 PM Lincoln, NE (Sports Network) - A former star Nebraska cornerback has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a police officer following a fight early Saturday morning.Alfonzo Dennard, who is likely to be picked in the NFL Draft on Thursday, was taken to Lancaster County jail on suspicion of felony third-degree assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and suspicion of midemeanor assault, according to the police report detailed in the Lincoln Journal Star.
Dennard was arrested as downtown bars closed, the paper said. Police said he struck another male before officers intervened. Another altercation then took place and Dennard was said to have pushed an officer, then punched him once on the left side of his face.
The 22-year-old senior finished with 31 tackles and six passes defensed this past season for Nebraska.
