Ivy League teams to kick off season

Sep 19, 2013 - 5:54 PM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Penn Quakers will kick off their season Saturday and expect to jump right into the fire against visiting Lafayette at Franklin Field.

Five of the last six games between the longtime rivals have been in doubt until a late-game drive.

Penn, the defending Ivy League champion under coach Al Bagnoli, holds a 62-23-4 series lead over Lafayette, but the Leopards have won five of the last six meetings.

The Penn-Lafayette game is one of six between Ivy and Patriot League programs on Saturday. As the 58th season of Ivy League football begins, Columbia will be at Fordham and Yale will visit defending Patriot champion Colgate, while Brown will host Georgetown, Cornell will be at home to Bucknell and Princeton will host Lehigh.

Two other Ivy teams will be on the road against Pioneer Football League opponents, Harvard at San Diego and Dartmouth at Butler.

Each of the eight Ivy teams holds a series lead against its opponent Saturday.
