Stanford DE Gardner's season over

Oct 29, 2013 - 6:59 PM Stanford, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Stanford defensive end Ben Gardner's collegiate career is over, after a torn pectoral muscle will end his season.

Gardner suffered the injury in the third quarter of Saturday's 20-12 victory at Oregon State, according to the Stanford Daily.

The fifth-year senior and team captain recorded 19 tackles and 4 1/2 sacks while participating in all eight games for the Cardinal in 2013.

Gardner, at 6-foot-4 and 277 pounds out of Wisconsin, completed his Stanford career having totaled 106 tackles and 17 1/2 sacks over 34 appearances for the storied Pac-12 program.

His loss couldn't have come at a worse time for the 7-1 Cardinal, who host second-ranked Oregon on Nov. 7.
