Jackson State, Southern clinch SWAC division titles

Nov 10, 2013 - 12:46 AM (SportsNetwork.com) - Jackson State and Southern have clinched their respective Southwestern Athletic Conference division titles and will meet in the conference championship game next month.

Both teams won on Saturday while clinching the divisions.

Jackson State won the Eastern Division for the second straight year after beating Alabama A&M, 26-20. Coach Rick Comegy's Tigers (8-2, 8-0) have a two- game lead on Alabama State and Alcorn State heading into their final regular- season game against Alcorn State next Saturday.

Southern has two regular-season games remaining, but only one in conference play Nov. 30 against Grambling State. The Jaguars (6-4, 6-2), under coach Dawson Odums, have a two-game lead over second-place Prairie View A&M.

The title game will be played Dec. 7 at Houston's Reliant Stadium.
