Troy coach Blakeney to retire at season's end

Oct 6, 2014 - 12:34 PM Troy, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Troy University head football coach Larry Blakeney has announced his retirement, effective at the conclusion of the 2014 season.

Blakeney is in his 24th year with the school. He informed his staff and players following practice on Sunday night.

The Trojans are off to a dismal 0-5 start, their worst since the 1982 season.

Blakeney, a two-time coach of the year in the Sun Belt Conference, has overseen the program's rise from Division II to the Football Championship Subdivision and in 2001 the Football Bowl Subdivision.

The Trojans won five conference titles and appeared in five bowl games from 2006-10 under Blakeney, who has a record of 175-109-1 with the school.
