Wallace, No. 3 Ole Miss take down 14th-ranked Texas A&M
Oct 12, 2014 - 6:53 AM College Station, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - There was no letdown for Ole Miss on Saturday, as the No. 3 Rebels rolled to a 35-20 win over 14th-ranked Texas A&M at Kyle Field.Coming into the game off a 23-17 win over Alabama that moved the team eight spots in the poll, the Rebels (6-0, 3-0 SEC) scored two touchdowns on defense and Bo Wallace tossed one score and ran in two others.
Wallace finished the game 13-for-19 for 178 yards and added 50 yards on 14 carries. Quincy Adeboyejo caught the lone touchdown pass from Wallace.
The Aggies (5-2, 2-2) have now dropped their past two games after losing to Mississippi State last week.
Kenny Hill went 42-for-53 for 401 yards with two touchdown passes and two interceptions while Trey Williams added a score on the ground in the loss.
"I had three turnovers and two of them went for touchdowns, that's all my fault," said Hill. "You can't win games like that."
After an exchange of punts to start the game, the Rebels got in the end zone with a quick five-play drive that covered 69 yards and was finished off on a 4-yard run by Wallace around the right end. Wallace completed passes to Laquon Treadwell for 21 yards and Adeboyejo for 31 yards prior to the score.
After another punt from the Aggies, the Rebels were pinned at their own 1-yard line, but Jaylen Walton gave his team some space with an 11-yard run. An 18- yard catch by Evan Engram, followed by a pair of 7-yard runs from Walton got the ball near midfield. An 18-yard catch from Cody Core moved the ball to the Texas A&M 10, and the next snap saw Wallace run it in for a 14-0 lead with 2:04 left in the first quarter.
The Aggies were moving on their ensuing possession and crossed midfield, but Cody Prewitt picked off Hill and took the ball all the way back on a 75-yard score and a 21-0 lead with 11:56 left in the first half.
The score stayed that way until the third quarter when Williams punched the ball in from three yards out to finish a 58-yard, 14-play drive with 7:05 to play in the quarter and get the Aggies on the board.
Ole Miss, though, answered a bit later as Wallace went deep and Adeboyejo came down with the ball for a 33-yard score and a 28-7 lead with just 13 seconds left in the third.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Keith Lewis picked up a fumble and ran in for the easy 21-yard score and a 35-7 advantage.
Hill completed touchdown passes of 24 and 13 yards to Josh Reynolds and Sabian Holmes, respectively, with Holmes' score coming on the final play of the game to make it a bit more respectable.
