Final
Mississippi State blanks Vanderbilt
Nov 23, 2014 - 7:38 AM Starkville, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - Dak Prescott threw for 193 yards and accounted for four total touchdowns to lead No. 4 Mississippi State to a 51-0 win over Vanderbilt on Saturday.Prescott threw three touchdown passes, two of which went to Joe Morrow, and also rushed for 30 yards with a score for the Bulldogs (10-1, 6-1 SEC), who bounced back from a 25-20 loss to Alabama last week.
Mississippi State can clinch the SEC West with a win over arch-rival Ole Miss next weekend, coupled with an Alabama loss to Auburn.
"We talked about it and if you want to compete in the SEC and compete for championships you have to win home games," Bulldogs head coach Dan Mullen said. "It was great to see us respond off of a loss, to come out here and play at that level."
Johnny McCrary completed 15-of-31 passes for 161 yards with an interception for the Commodores (3-8, 0-7).
"We definitely had our fair share of mistakes and miscues. We didn't do a good enough job for us," said Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason. "It started on defense and we just didn't do a good enough job getting off the field."
Prescott led a 7-play, 79-yard drive that started with a 19-yard pass to Malcolm Johnson and ended with the two hooking up for a 9-yard touchdown. Evan Sobiesk missed the extra point.
Morrow hauled in a 27-yard touchdown on the Bulldogs' next touch and they led 13-0 after a quarter of play.
Early in the second, Christian Holmes scooped up a Latevius Rayford fumble and took it 51 yards for a touchdown.
Mississippi State then embarked on an 8-play, 61-yard drive on its next possession with Prescott tossed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Josh Robinson for a 27-0 lead.
Patton Robinette was intercepted by Tolando Cleveland and Prescott rushed it into the end zone from four yards out to cap the 10-play drive. Sobiesk closed the half with a 34-yard field goal to make it a 37-0 game at the half.
Ashton Shumpert scored a 3-yard rushing touchdown late in the third and Morrow caught a 9-yard TD toss from Prescott early in the fourth to account for the final margin.
