Ohio State's Barrett out for season
Nov 30, 2014 - 12:02 AM Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Ohio State's chances at reaching the College Football Playoff seemingly took a hit Saturday even though the Buckeyes upended rival Michigan.Starting quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate J.T. Barrett was carted off the field early in the fourth quarter, and it was revealed after the game he will miss the rest of the season with a broken right ankle.
Ohio State came into rivalry weekend ranked sixth in the CFP poll and faces either Minnesota or Wisconsin in next week's Big Ten title game.
"I think it's all going to be how we play next week," OSU head coach Urban Meyer said when asked if Barrett's injury will affect the Buckeyes' playoff chances. "We're going to have Cardale (Jones) ready to go."
Jones, a sophomore, has thrown just 19 passes in his collegiate career.
Barrett's leg got caught underneath him as he was being tackled at the end of a run.
The redshirt freshman completed 13-of-21 passes for 176 yards with one touchdown and rushed for 89 yards and two scores before exiting.
Barrett established a new Big Ten single-season record for total touchdowns with 45. He broke Drew Brees' previous mark of 42 set in 1998.
No one has shouted yet.
