Freeze, Ole Miss agree to extension

Dec 2, 2014 - 2:20 PM Oxford, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - Ole Miss head football coach Hugh Freeze has agreed to a contract extension.

Athletic director Ross Bjork made the announcement Tuesday on Twitter.

"Proud that we have @CoachHughFreeze leading our program & young men for a long time to come. Agreement is in place & future is bright!" Bjork posted on his official Twitter account.

Freeze had been rumored to be a candidate for the Florida Gators' job.

"Very blessed to be at THE University of Miss & work for and with great people and fans! REBELNATION, say it with me, I AM AN OLE MISS REBEL," Freeze tweeted.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reported Monday that the extension will raise Freeze's salary to at least $4 million per season. Freeze's current deal pays him $3 million a year, according to the paper.

It is not yet known the length of the extension.

The Rebels (9-3, 5-3 SEC) concluded the regular season by beating then-No. 4 Mississippi State 31-17 on Saturday. The win vaulted the Rebels five spots to 13th in the latest AP poll.

Freeze compiled a 15-11 record and guided Ole Miss to bowl wins in each of his first two seasons.
