Missouri extends Pinkel through 2021 season

Apr 24, 2015 - 11:46 PM Columbia, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The University of Missouri rewarded head football coach Gary Pinkel with a contract extension that will keep him with the school through the 2021 season.

With the new agreement, Pinkel's guaranteed salary will increase to $4.02 million per year, up from the previous $3.2 million mark.

Last season, the Tigers went 11-3 and beat Minnesota in the Citrus Bowl. Missouri has won the SEC East title the last two years. Pinkel was the SEC Coach of the Year this past season.

"Coach Pinkel has established himself as one of the premier football coaches in America and he has certainly created a championship culture and tradition at Mizzou," said incoming athletics director Mack Rhoades. "I'm excited to get to work with Gary and help him and his staff continue their incredible run of success."

Pinkel, who has coached the Tigers since 2001, has compiled a 113-66 mark at the school. He's 186-103-3 overall, which includes a 10-year stint at Toledo.

"We've shared some pretty amazing success together over the years, and as competitors we all know there's more to be done," Pinkel said. "I've never been more excited to be here and to pursue excellence with such a great leadership team, and such an amazing and dedicated coaching staff. We're excited to partner with Mack Rhoades going forward and continue to build a program that Mizzou fans will be proud of."
