BYU headed for Las Vegas Bowl or Hawaii Bowl

Apr 30, 2015 - 4:56 PM Provo, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - With almost four months to go before the 2015 season commences, Brigham Young University has already locked up a postseason berth.

On Thursday, the university announced that the Cougars have accepted invitations to play in either the Las Vegas Bowl or the Hawaii Bowl following the completion of the upcoming campaign.

Both invitations are contingent upon the independent program being bowl eligible and not selected to participate in the College Football Playoff.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in these two bowl games," said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. "We look forward to returning to Las Vegas and Honolulu. We are fortunate to have a large fan base in both areas and it will be great to renew the many longtime friendships we've enjoyed in these two cities."

BYU played in five consecutive Las Vegas Bowls from 2005-09, winning three times. Its last sojourn to the Hawaiian island chain occurred in the 1992 Aloha Bowl, a 23-20 loss to Kansas.
