-Trevone Boykin, TCU, threw five TD passes, four to freshman KaVontae Turpin, and the No. 4 Horned Frogs rode a 30-point first quarter to a 50-7 rout of Texas.

-Ezekiel Elliott, Ohio State, scored on TD runs of 55, 65 and 75 yards in the second half, and the No. 1 Buckeyes escaped with a 34-27 win over Indiana.

-Leonard Fournette, LSU, ran for 233 yards and three TDs No. 9 LSU overcame a fitful performance to beat Eastern Michigan 44-22

-Seth Russell, Baylor, passed for 286 yards and four TDs and ran for two more scores in the fifth-ranked Bears' 63-35 win over Texas Tech.

-Jared Goff, California, threw for 390 yards and four TDs to lead the No. 24 Bears to a 34-28 victory over Washington State.

-Peyton Barber, Auburn, rushed for five TDs, including a decisive 36-yarder, and the Tigers beat San Jose State 35-21.

-Nick Mullins, Southern Mississippi, threw for 325 yards and four TDs, and ran for a score in a 49-14 win over North Texas.

-Mike Warren, Iowa State, set a school freshman record with 175 yards rushing and two TDs, helping the Cyclones beat Kansas 38-13.

-Greg Ward Jr., Houston, threw for 273 yards and ran for 182 yards with three TDs to help lead the Cougars to a 38-24 win over Tulsa.

-Brandon Doughty, Western Kentucky, threw for 409 yards and four first-half TDs in a 49-10 win over Rice.

-Kyle Lauletta, Richmond, threw for four TDs and a career-high 311 yards, and ran for another score in a 48-17 victory over Maine.

-Deshawn Salter, Yale, ran for a career-high 233 yards and two TDs in a 27-12 win over Lehigh.

-Dalton Crossan, New Hampshire, ran for 140 yards and four TDs in a 37-14 win over Elon.

SWAMP SHOCKER

Will Grier was sick all right.

He was downright nasty.

Grier threw four touchdown passes to four receivers - all in the first half - and No. 25 Florida upset third-ranked Mississippi 38-10 to give coach Jim McElwain a signature win in his first season in Gainesville.

Grier battled a stomach virus for two days before the game, feeling so ill that the Gators (5-0, 3-0 Southeastern Conference) thought there was a chance Treon Harris might get the nod. Grier started anyway and was sharper than ever.

The freshman completed 24 of 29 passes for 271 yards against the Rebels (4-1, 2-1). He was poised in the pocket, precise with every throw and even closer to perfect than he was down the stretch against Tennessee last week.

BUCKEYE SCARE

Ezekiel Elliott did everything he could to keep Ohio State's winning streak going. It still took a final goal-line stand for the top-ranked Buckeyes to hold off Indiana.

And now, Ohio State's grip on the No. 1 ranking could be slipping after a 34-27 win over the Hoosiers.

Elliott had an electrifying second half with touchdown runs of 55, 65 and 75 yards and finished with a career-best 274 yards as the Buckeyes narrowly won their 18th in a row - the longest current streak in the FBS.

Nothing came easy for Ohio State. Especially at the end, when Buckeyes cornerback Eli Apple batted away a desperation pass in the back of the end zone as time expired.

The Buckeyes extended their Big Ten regular-season record streak to 25 in a row - and could tie Oklahoma for the most weeks ranked No. 1 (101), if they can hold onto it.

DOUBLE HARBAUGH

Jim Harbaugh was joined on the Michigan sideline by his brother John, who offered advice and cheered for the Wolverines in a 28-0 win over Maryland.

John Harbaugh usually spends Saturdays during football season getting his Baltimore Ravens ready to play on Sunday. But because the Ravens were in Pittsburgh on Thursday and Michigan was playing nearby, John got the chance to be with his brother.

At the start of the game, John Harbaugh stood at the end of the Michigan bench. By the second quarter, he was standing next to Jim.

Afterward, Jim said, ''He gave really good input during the game. It was great to have him here.''

NUMBERS

13-Years since Iowa State won its Big 12 opener before beating Kansas 28-13.

59-Years since Texas (1-4) got a season off to a worse start.

499-Yards of offense in the first half by Baylor in its 63-35 win over Texas Tech. The Bears finished with 680 total yards.

LONGHORN DAY

The Texas Longhorns narrowly avoided their worst shutout loss in more than 100 years. They've lost to TCU in consecutive seasons for the first time in almost 60.

And after a 50-7 loss to the fourth-ranked Horned Frogs, coach Charlie Strong had to field questions about whether defensive back Kris Boyd was tweeting from the locker room at halftime.

It's not getting any easier for the once-proud and now-beleaguered program. Texas comes back to the Dallas area next weekend for the annual Red River rivalry against No. 15 Oklahoma.
