Panthers blank Steelers in preseason finale

Aug 29, 2014 - 2:41 AM Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Fozzy Whittaker ran for 91 yards and a touchdown and the Carolina Panthers blanked the Pittsburgh Steelers, 10-0, in the preseason finale for both teams on Thursday.

First-round rookie Kelvin Benjamin caught four passes for 56 yards for Carolina, which will travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers in its season opener next Sunday.

Derek Anderson was 8-of-14 for 98 yards before leaving with an injury to his throwing hand. Joe Webb completed 8-of-11 passes for 116 yards in the triumph.

Darrius Heyward-Bey had six receptions for 44 yards for the Steelers, who will host the Cleveland Browns in Week 1. Landry Jones was 14-of-18 for 97 yards in defeat.

Graham Gano booted through a 33-yard field goal in the first quarter for the opening half's only scoring and Whittaker's 2-yard TD run in the third gave Carolina its 10-0 cushion.
