CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- While New York Jets fans were intrigued by one quarterback named Brett, another one stepped up on Thursday.
Reserve quarterback Brett Ratliff tossed a pair of touchdown passes as the Jets rallied to defeat the Cleveland Browns, 24-20, in the preseason opener for both teams.
While Favre introduced himself to teammates on the sideline, Ratliff threw touchdown strikes of 71 and 70 yards to wide receiver David Clowney.
Clowney finished with four receptions for 163 yards, while Ratliff connected on 14-of-20 passes for 252 yards. The Jets took the lead for good at 24-20 when Dwight Lowery, a rookie out of San Jose State, returned a punt 62 yards for a score with 10:02 to play
Quarterback Kellen Clemens started for the Jets and was 4-of-6 for 31 yards.
Cleveland quarterback Derek Anderson completed 4-of-5 passes for 20 yards - including a two-yard scoring toss to Braylon Edwards - while Brady Quinn connected on 13-of-17 passes for 133 yards and one interception.
The game was stopped with 12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter as Jets tight end A.J. Schable was taken off the field on a stretcher following a Browns kickoff return.
