EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- With nothing on the line, Saturday's meeting between quarterbacks Eli Manning and Brett Favre did not produce nearly the same results.
Brett Ratliff's 24-yard touchdown pass to Paul Raymond with 6:08 left rallied the New York Jets to a 10-7 victory over the New York Giants.
Ratliff, the third-string quarterback, made up for an interception that led to Ahmad Bradshaw's 3-yard scoring run early in the fourth quarter
Manning and Favre were meeting for the first time since their thrilling duel in sub-zero temperatures in Green Bay with the NFC title and a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. So much has changed since then, as Favre retired, then unretired and was traded to the Giants' co-tenants, the Jets, who acted as the host for this game.
After a scoreless opening half, the Jets drove 72 yards in 17 plays over 9:18 to open the second half behind Favre's backup, Kellen Clemens, with Mike Nugent's 24-yard field goal providing the game's first points.
With this usually being the final preseason game in which any starters or key players see time, the Giants saw defensive end Osi Umenyiora go down with an undisclosed left knee injury that required an X-ray, which proved negative. Umenyiora will undergo further evaluation Sunday.
During a lackluster first quarter, both Favre and Manning were sacked once as their respective offenses mostly sputtered.
Favre completed 9-of-12 passes for 96 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions, playing only the first half before giving way to Clemens. Thomas Jones gained 11 yards on six carries.
Manning was 10-of-17 for 113 yards, with no scores or turnovers. Brandon Jacobs carried six times for 26 yards and Derrick Ward added 36 yards on four rushes.
The Giants' opening drive took them from their own 30 to the Jets 35 but stalled and finished with a punt. With kicker Lawrence Tynes sidelined indefinitely, 52 yards would have been testing the range of replacement Josh Huston.
On their final possession of the first half, the Jets got over midfield and Favre hit Jerricho Cotchery in stride with a bullet down the right sideline for an apparent touchdown. But tight end Bubba Franks was whistled for illegal formation, nullifying the score.
The Giants drove to the Jets 7 on the ensuing possession, but on 3rd-and-goal after two incomplete passes, Manning was sacked by Calvin Pace for the second time. The 16-yard loss made Huston's attempt 42 yards, and he missed wide right.
Giants starting linebacker Danny Clark left with a groin strain, defensive tackle Rodney Leisle was taken for an X-ray on his knee and safety Craig Dahl sprained his knee.
For the Jets, cornerback Justin Miller limped off with a foot injury that did not appear to be serious.
