NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Two former Nashville high school stars led the Tennessee Titans to a 17-16 win over the Oakland Raiders in a preseason game at LP Field on Friday night.
John Vaughn, who played for nearby Brentwood Academy before moving on to Auburn, kicked a 33-yard field goal for the Titans (2-0) as time expired.
Third-string quarterback Ingle Martin, a former Montgomery Bell Academy standout who also played at Florida and Furman, marched the Titans 74 yards during the final 2:10 to set up Vaughn's winning kick.
Tennessee's Stanford Keglar recovered a fumble by Oakland's Oren O'Neal at the Titans 3-yard line to set up the winning drive.
Aaron Elling, filling in for the injured Sebastian Janikowski, kicked three field goals for Oakland (1-1).
Elling, who was out of the NFL the past two seasons, kicked field goals of 56, 27 and 45 yards. He played for Minnesota, Tennessee and Baltimore from 2003-2006.
Oakland quarterback JaMarcus Russell looked sharp on the Raiders' first-half scoring drive, completing 5-of-6 passes for 61 yards.
He scrambled out of the pocket on 3rd-and-7 to hit tight end Zach Miller, who made a diving catch for a 10-yard touchdown that gave the Raiders a 7-0 lead on the second play of the second quarter. Miller had four receptions for 48 yards in the first half.
Russell, the top pick in the 2007 draft, completed 10-of-17 passes for 75 yards and one touchdown as he played the entire first half.
Titans quarterback Vince Young struggled, completing only 1-of-6 passes for 18 yards and was replaced by backup Kerry Collins with seven minutes left in the first half.
Titans rookie Chris Johnson enjoyed his second consecutive productive game, rushing for 46 yards on eight carries.
Raiders rookie Darren McFadden also looked impressive, rushing for 44 yards on six carries as he averaged 7.3 yards per touch.
Tennessee tied the game 7-7 on special teams when Paul Williams stripped the ball from Johnnie Lee Higgins on a punt return and Ahmad Hall pounced on the loose ball in the end zone with 4:07 left in the second quarter.
Elling kicked a 56-yard field goal on the final play of the first half, giving Oakland a 10-7 lead.
Tennessee answered early in the third quarter when Collins hit Lavelle Hawkins with a 51-yard TD strike to give the Titans a 14-10 lead.
Elling added a 27-yard field goal, narrowing the Titans' lead to 14-13 with 12:44 left. Then he gave the Raiders a 16-14 lead with a 45-yard field goal with 5:19 left.
