Eagles' Vick expected to be ready for opener

Aug 22, 2012 - 4:23 PM Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that quarterback Michael Vick will be ready for the season opener Sept. 9 against the Cleveland Browns.

Reid stated that Vick, who left Monday's preseason game against the New England Patriots after taking a hard hit to the ribs in the first quarter, "most likely won't play" Friday for the Eagles' game against the Browns.

Vick was hurt Monday while taking a big hit from Patriots linebacker Jermaine Cunningham just after releasing a pass. X-rays taken Monday night were negative.

An MRI and CT scan on Vick's ribs showed no broken bones and no fractured cartilage. The injury is a contusion of the ribs and the soft tissue area surrounding it.

Vick has been hurt twice in as many games this summer. He also hurt his thumb in the preseason opener against Pittsburgh.

In 13 games last season, Vick threw for 3,303 yards, 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He also missed three weeks with broken ribs.

Rookie Nick Foles will start Friday against Cleveland if Vick doesn't play.
